SMASHING IDOLS
Northern NJ

I found yet another good band online while I was searching for a band to feature this week! They call themselves Smashing Idols. Now, by the title, I was expecting a band that was going to make me want to break things. I mean, just listen to the name! So, as I proceed to listen to a few of their songs “Follow You”, “Bloodbath”, and “Be At Rest,” I begin to realize that they’re a Christian Rock Band! Cool, another Stryper! Wrong! These guys rock much harder than Stryper! Singer Bob Mazzo’s vocal range is pretty wide. I mean, I heard him hit notes that reminded me of Chris Cornell. Pretty Impressive! And their songs rock too! Especially if you’re into the fact that they sing about God!

Smashing Idols was formed in 2002 by singer/guitarist Bob Mazzo, brothers Rich (bass) and Paul (drums) Newman (no, not the actor), and guitarist John Kerswell. They felt that their chemistry was too good to pass up. They created an edgy sound that had honest-in-your-face lyrics. Smashing Idols’ sound infused a powerful message of hope with music that is real and speaks out about the reality of Jesus in today’s world! These guys from Smashing Idols believe that when people come to see them perform, the truth of the gospel will shine through their music and that many people will be drawn to the lord Jesus Christ. Do I sound like a priest in mass yet?/p>

In July, 2004, Smashing Idols were one of the finalists in the STAR 99.1 FM Sunday Night Live Battle Of The Bands. You can hear clips of their songs on their website www.smashingidols.com or go down to The Wreck Room tomorrow night (1/6) to see what the Lord himself is talking about! They really are a good and tight band, so check them out!
